A kind-hearted soul
Friday, July 21, 2006 @ 9:25 PM
Kind-hearted strangers are few and scarce these days. All of us are simply so self-centered that we hardly stop and think for someone else for a change. I think we are even too self-absorbed to take a look at our surroundings. What's more, it's really wonderful to meet such a kind soul after a hard day's work.
I usually work late on Fridays because I'm usually most energetic and productive towards the end of the week. No doubt about that. Work ends at 5.30pm but I pushed it till 7.15pm. When I got onto the bus, I was so tired I couldn't stop yawning for almost first half of the journey. Well..after so many yawns, obviously my eyes started tearing. And subsequently my nose started running. So I started sniffling my nose knowing that it will stop somehow. Haa..I guess all our facial orifices work together. One starts, the rest gets started too. *FYI, no tissue*
Then the lady sitted next to me opened a new pack of tissue and offered me a tissue. Frankly, I was truly surprised. I wasn't expecting someone to offer a piece of tissue. So nice!!! At first I declined because I knew I didn't really need it. But she took a piece out of the pack and told me it's better to have it. I took it, thanked her and gave her a big smile. Continued to thank her until she alighted the bus. I was totally impressed.
For whatever reasons she offered me the tissue (maybe some of you may be thinking she found me kind of irritating sniffling my nose), I think she's one real rare breed. A kind-hearted soul. Let's do something nice for a stranger each day. Even if it's a simple gesture like smiling. It will really brighten up someone else's day.
