SE vs Relationship
Friday, April 14, 2006 @ 1:24 AM

Juz found some similarities between software engineering and relationships (no matter love, friendship or family).

In software engineering context, for SDLC about 40% of the effort is spent on developing the system and 60-70% of the effort is spent on maintenance.

As for relationships, 40% of the effort is spent on beginning a relationship. Perhaps even less if it's a friendship or relationship with a family member. 60-70% of the effort is also spent on maintaining the relationship. For example, it requires effort to make a marriage work (this is referred to as maintenance).

For relationship, it requires effort from two parties to make it work. For software engineering too! The development team and the customers/users must work closely together.

Hey hey hey...Sounds reasonable to me.
