Review: Memoirs of a Geisha
Tuesday, January 17, 2006 @ 12:26 AM

No, I'm not gonna talk abt the storyline. I know some will be annoyed becoz they hv not caught the movie yet. I'm juz gonna comment abt who I liked in the movie.

Gong Li is so so captivating. Since her 1st scene in the movie...it was juz a walk-by scene, no words spoken (if I didn't remember wrongly). She portrayed Hatsumomo so well that she really made me believe that she's Hatsumomo. Well...she's got a great role in the movie but what's the point if you're not a great actress? She was fabulous. And she looked beautiful in the movie even with her tousled hair. Ken Watanabe was great too but his role in Last Samurai was better.

Anyway, I was surprised they managed to condense such a thick book into a 3hr movie (obviously some minor parts were not in the movie - like the Mr Tanaka part). I loved the book, it's one of my fave. But same as all other movies that were adapted from books, please don't expect much. Oh yes, almost forgot to mention something....how come they didn't wear any head gears in the movie??? Geishas and maikos are suppose to wear them.
