Christmas came and gone
Thursday, December 29, 2005 @ 12:03 AM

Like every other Christmas eve, it was hectic as usual. Give you some idea how I usually spend it.

Woke up at around 8.30am, wash up and prepare to make my tiramisu. Bathe, get dressed and packed by 12pm coz my uncle came to fetch me to his place. Volunteered to go there earlier to help out my aunt. By the time I reached, I was exhausted. Went to bed at 2am the previous night. Oh man!

Spend some time playing with Fudge. Ermm...he was licking me all over but fortunately managed to keep my face out of his reach. I mean...no idea where else he licks..the grass? everyone's shoes, socks? Hmm..no thanks. Then spend some time with my cousin. I was suppose to help him look into a poem he wrote the previous night but NO TIME! *****

Tried to take a nappy after all the disruption but failed to. I think I was too worried about how my tiramisu would turn out. Then around 4pm, went out with my uncle to pick up the ham and the dark cherry pie from the nearby shops. Went back to the house, assigned to arrange the seatings and to lay the table. I was trying to get things done and spend time with Fudge at the same time coz Fudge is always seeking for attention (FYI. Fudge is not toilet trained so we were afraid he might poo in the house). For the rest of the time, helped out here and there. Spent more time garnishing the dishes actually. Oh! Learnt how to crave the ham this year. But was terrible at it coz I can't seem to crave in a straight line.

Only settled down around 7.30pm when everyone starts arriving. My aunt actually prepared so much for hors d'oeuvre. Nachos and "dunno what" dip, mint chocolates, cubes of cheese and ham to go with wine, and pate with crackers. Hee...didn't have to drive this year so get to drink like no one's business. My dad would usually assign me as the chauffeur of the night to prevent me from drinking too much. Haa...too bad, no car! My uncle bought Late Harvest wine. It's a sweet dessert wine. Really nice! I loved it so much I actually had 3 servings (1/2 - 3/4 glass each serving only). Dinner started formally at 9pm. Then had a serving of red wine to go with the meat dishes. And a little Bailey's Irish Cream after dinner. Haa...now I sound like some kinda drunk to you but no, I'm into food and wine appreciation. And I can hold my liquor pretty well.

Served dessert at 11pm and that was when disaster strikes!!! I was about to serve my tiramisu when I accidentally dropped it on the floor. *Sigh* How "wonderful"! All my hard work gone just like that. I was in such a shock I didn't know what to do.

Fortunately my grandma and aunt came to the rescue. They came to save the top portion of the dessert (looks like poo). Errol and Liot came to give me a comforting hug. Thks! My mum just stood beside me and gave me a lecture. Hello! Some idiot (not me) went to put a rubber band around the container and I had a hard time struggling with it.

After dinner, like usual, gathered at the living room singing christmas carols. My cousins and uncles were going full force on the drums, piano, keyboard, guitar, bass, microphones and amplifiers. I was surprised the neighbours didn't send any NP to our house. Oh, I was also made to do a solo performance. Finally, the $5 gift exchange...always filled with laughter. We were all trying to "guess the gifts". All speculating what grandparents bought. Coz last year were Lux soap and toothpaste. LOL. This year, grandma bought tissue paper!!! My mum got it and she started shouting "cheapskate". Haa... Grandpa like usual, got toothpaste! And I got "Most Imginative" award this year! I bought this cup cover that has 3 functions (covers, holds spoon, suction to prevent spills). Cost me only $2.95.

Christmas came too soon and gone too fast. New year, new beginnings. Hope that everyone will have a better year ahead! Happy New Year!
