Review: A Twist of Fate
Tuesday, November 29, 2005 @ 10:39 PM
Went to catch SRT's production of A Twist of Fate (www.srt.com.sg) on Sunday with mum. Yupe, my treat again! My early christmas present to her...very pricey ah.
It's a murder mystery musical comedy. A wonderful show, a brilliant cast. In fact, one of the best I've been to. It has everything...the comedy, the "Agatha Christie" mystery, the drama, the romance, the music, a cast with excellent voices and acting and great stage design. One reason why I wanted to catch it so badly becoz it reminded me of the Literature play I did in Secondary school "Inspector Calls". And truly no regrets.
When the curtains were rised and the cast did the opening number "House of Lim Chin Boon", a sense of warmth overwhelmed me. And then I remembered why I loved musical so much...because I love the mixture of drama and music. It's been some time since I've been to a musical becoz of my disappointing experience with "Fame". Not that it wasn't good but I didn't really enjoy it.
I was listening to 1997 production on the CD. I have to say that the 2005 production has a much stronger cast. For me, Laura Michelle Kelly, Sebastian Tan and Emma Yong definitely stole the show. Sebastian and Emma will tickle your funny bones (especially Ah See and his skills in killing chicken). Laura Michelle Kelly, one of the major reasons I went to catch it. Great voice!!! Added colors to the local peranakan setting. Adrian Pang, brilliant as always.
Go catch it before it ends on 4th Dec!
Glad that mum enjoyed it...at least what I paid for was worth it. Can't wait for rerun of Forbidden City coming September 2006. Mum wants to catch it becoz she studied the literature text in secondary school.
